The first exhibition of Yuko Higuchi in Korea, "Yuko Higuchi Special Exhibition: The Secret Forest," presents the artist's boundless imagination and fantasy, resembling a vast forest, to Korean audiences. This exhibition features a carefully curated selection of original works by the artist, along with picture book drawings, movie poster designs, and collaboration pieces. Additionally, it showcases over 1,000 items, including felt dolls, mini-books, and costumes created in collaboration with numerous artists. In line with the theme "The Secret Forest," the exhibition introduces five new Korea-exclusive artworks, inviting visitors into a world that is charming yet at times eerily mysterious.

The First Large-Scale Exhibition in Korea

Featuring over 1,000 pieces, including original works personally selected by the artist, picture book drawings, movie poster designs, and collaboration pieces. The exhibition also introduces objects such as dolls, mini books, and costumes created together with numerous artists.
Opening on October 3rd at The Hyundai Seoul ALT.1, the first-ever Yuko Higuchi exhibition in Korea invites visitors into the artist’s boundless world of imagination and fantasy. Following the success of Circus, which toured around Japan 10 times, this exhibition presents a vast, forest-like realm filled with Higuchi’s infinite creativity. It features over 1,000 works, including original pieces selected by the artist, picture book drawings, poster designs, and collaboration works. Additionally, a variety of objects such as felt dolls, mini books, and costumes created with fellow artists will be on display. In line with the theme “Secret Forest”, the exhibition introduces exclusive artworks created specifically for Korea, inviting visitors into a world that is both adorable and eerily mysterious.

Yuko Higuchi is an artist renowned for her intricate depictions of a whimsical and fantastical world. The work blends familiar subjects like cats, flowers, girls, and trees with boundless imagination, creating a distinctive dreamlike universe. The artist’s unique artistry extends beyond mere cuteness, embracing elements of dark aesthetics, horror, and surrealism. Through meticulous detailing and signature patterns, Higuchi’s work leaves a lasting impression on viewers. A one-of-a-kind artistic vision has also been recognized through collaborations with renowned brands, most notably Gucci, garnering global attention beyond Japan. Higuchi’s creative works can also be found in book covers, magazines, and movie posters, showcasing versatile artistic talent across various media.
 

Exhibition Contents

Section 1. Forest Entrance
At the entrance of the forest, filled with a sense of mystery like the artist’s world, you can encounter Higuchi’s early works.


Section 2. Collaboration & Boris Store Artworks
Before entering the forest, visitors can explore the artist’s collaborations with various brands and enjoy the works displayed at Boris Store, the artist’s gallery


Section 3. The Secret Room
In a cozy room hidden somewhere in the forest, mysterious creatures are spotted through the window. Here, you will find adorable Japanese traditional dolls and folding screens that have been reborn as the artist’s signature character.


Section 4. Picture Books
As an artist and illustrator of picture books, a comprehensive collection of artworks can be viewed. This includes unpublished cuts that were not included in the books with original illustrations from published picture books, such as “You Are the Best in the World” and “Two Cats”.


Section 5. Artwork for Korean Exhibition
Not only will the newly created works be seen by the artist, especially for the exhibition in Korea, but will also feature artworks from past exhibitions.


Section 6. The Jungle
As you enter the mysterious area within the forest, the fantastic works born from the artist’s unique imagination begin to appear.


Section 7. Horror
Showcases horror works that highlight the artist’s unique style, which are both cute and eerie. Through various motifs such as girls, snails, and mushrooms, you can glimpse the true essence of Yuko Higuchi’s pursuit of eerie expressions.


Section 8. Movie Posters
In a hidden movie theater somewhere in the forest, you can find movie posters that have been reimagined and drawn by the artist.
